Detailed Analysis of Stepping Servo System

Overview of Stepping Servo System

According to P&S market research, the global stepping motor market is expected to exceed $2.55 billion ($2,556.3 million) in 2023 with the increasing demand for micro-motors from mechanization and technological innovation and the competitive growth brought about by the performance-price ratio of stepping servo system itself.

For those applications that do not require high-performance servo motors, stepper motors have always occupied a place in the field of automation equipment due to their low price and high torque output of the same size. Although step motors need tedious testing to avoid resonance region, and the lack of effective feedback makes the selection more difficult and many other disadvantages.

However, in recent years, this disadvantage has been effectively compensated for by the development of "stepping servo" technology. Stepping servo is usually called "closed-loop stepping control". Its core is the feedback of high adaptive current regulation and control signals. It is the same as the control mode of servo motor. It detects the rotor position by encoder signal and generates the corresponding sinusoidal current in the motor winding. The vector control of the magnetic field ensures that the magnetic field direction of the stator is always perpendicular to the magnetic field of the rotor, and the magnetic field intensity corresponds precisely to the required torque. Compared with a servo motor of the same size, when the speed is maintained at 20%-50% of its rated speed, the continuous torque obtained by the stepping servo motor is theoretically 2-3 times that of the servo motor, and because of the low price of the stepping motor, the stepping servo system is an ideal economic alternative to the servo motor.

Examples of Stepping Servo System

PMC007C6SEPXX-XX series full-closed-loop integrated stepper servo system not only realizes the compact installation design of stepper motor driver controller, but also realizes the full-closed-loop control of encoder built-in. The perfect combination of position loop, speed loop, current loop and stepper motor can be called one of the representative products of stepper servo system.

Full closed-loop control mode:

Built-in high-resolution encoder feeds speed and position signals back to PMC007 series small stepper motor driver. The controller combines CAN bus control command and current signal feedback from motor winding to control motor rotation to realize internal closed-loop control. At the same time, PMC007 series controller can receive feedback signals from various sensors at load side, thus realizing full closed-loop control.
